Cracks through centre of panel; heavy horizontal
cracking across picture surface; surface
severely abraded
This icon and cat. no 48 are fragments
of the same Deesis. Judging by the Tretyakov
Gallery’s inventory numbering,
we may assume that they also possessed
a third panel from this Deesis. Typical -
ly Novgorodian characteristics are the
elongated figures, the background col -
our and the thinly applied paint. The
painting is of relatively high quality.
