    Description in Icons, Nationalmuseum, Stockholm, 2004, cat. no. 19:
    The Mother of God “Hodegetria”
    Late 18th century, Northern Greece
    NMI 235

    Wood: Pine (Pinus sp.), egg tempera
    on canvas. Panel made of single board
    without splines; carved frame with top
    arch.

    PROVENANCE: Olof Aschberg;
    Gift of O.Aschberg 1933
    CONSERVATION: Restored prior to entering
    NM: old repair, using metal mounting on
    the top border, to crack through the centre
    of the icon. Heavy losses of paint layer and
    ground over the entire surface; wood losses
    along the borders; dark varnish
    Traces of attachments on the outer
    edges show that the icon formed the
    central part of a triptych.
