    splines inlaid from opposite sides; back
    painted brown.

    CONSERVATION: Restored prior to entering
    NM: repainted in 18th century style using
    parts of original painting; the 19th century
    metal frame comes from another icon;
    metal plate with inscription made at the
    time of restoration. Uneven varnish
    The face, with the olive skin colour
    from the first layer of carnation (sankir),
    the orange head-dress (maphorion)
    and deep blue in dress and inside of
    maphorion are original.
    Single representations showing
    Saint Vera are rather unusual. This may
    have beenan eponymous iconfor a nun.
