    Wood: Pine (Pinus sp.), egg tempera
    on canvas. Panel made of single board
    with two splines inlaid from opposite
    sides; back painted brown.

    CONSERVATION: Restored prior to entering
    NM: cleaned and retouched on background
    and borders; NM 1970: wood knot
    in left border glued, scattered retouches,
    revarnished, treated with wax (B. Titov).
    Varnish yellowed
    St Simon, Bishop of Persia, was mar
    tyred, probably in 344. His Feast day is
    on 17th April.
    On the upper border a representation
    of Christ “not made by Human
    Hands”.
