CONSERVATION: Restored prior to entering
NM: repainted in 19th century, probably
in an Old Believer workshop, scattered
retouches on background and borders; the
original depictions of Christ and the Moth -
er of God are uncovered later; NM 1962:
cracks right through the panel mended,
retouched, varnished. Scattered losses of
paint layers; uneven varnish; panel warped
and worm-eaten.
St Nicholas is shown half-length, hold -
ing an open book in his left hand. The
text comes from Luke VI:17.
