    CONSERVATION: Restored prior to entering
    NM: old varnish removed; insertions along
    lower border; scattered retouches; NM
    1959: crack through middle of icon and
    smaller cracks mended, blisters consoli -
    dated. Varnish yellowed
    For remarks concerning iconography
    see cat. no 160. The same prototype
    may possibly have been employed for
    both icons. Here the graphic, stylised
    features are more noticeable, e.g. in the
    drawing of the eddies or the cliff
    ledges.The distinctive manner of draw -
    ing noses like “birds’ beaks” could link
    this icon with the Pomorye district
