    CONSERVATION: Restored prior to entering
    NM: painting cleaned; scattered insertions
    of ground and inpaintings on background,
    borders and on lower part of figure with
    artificial craquelure. Slightly darkened varnish
    The initials of the Mother of God
    are to be found in two circular shapes
    on the upper border. Painted on an
    old panel the icon displays all the char -
    acteristics of being painted in accord -
    ance with Old Believer tradition.
