Ivar Arosenius’ depiction of Noah’s Ark differs from many other interpretations of the Biblical scene. People and pigs are united in a roaring banquet in which both the ark and the devil are licenced to sell alcohol. According to Norse mythology the rainbow represented a bridge between Asgard and Midgard, that is between gods and humans. The painting is unfinished and was on the artist’s easel at the time of his death.
