The portrait of Jean Burnay materialized in Lisbon on Zorn’s way from London to Madrid. The painting is an interesting example of how the the portrait’s setting helps to manifest the subject of the person portrayed. Zorn uses a sofa as his only prop, but he turns it into part of Burnay’s appearance. The figure of the model is magnificent in the same way as the peacock with his tail feathers.
