Jean-Baptiste Jacques Augustin was Isabey’s opposite. The latter enjoyed Napoleon’s special favour. Even so the emperor appointed Augustin as court miniaturist. In the portrait of Napoleon exhibited here the emperor is wearing the characteristic green uniform of colonel of the Mounted Chasseurs of the Imperial Guard. During the Restoration Augustin continued to supply official portraits, now of Louis XVIII.
