Dressed as an ancient orator, Gustaf Adolf Reuterholm contemplates a bust of his father, the “Cap” politician and councillor Esbjörn Kristian Reuterholm. For a short time after Gustav III’s assassination, from 1792 to 1796, Gustaf Adolf Reuterholm was in practice the person who governed Sweden. He himself decided the iconography of this portrait, which was painted by Angelica Kauffmann in Rome. Many travellers from abroad visited her studio and commissioned portraits from her.
