Krafft likely painted this portrait during his second sojourn in Bayreuth, in the mid-1760s. He was now a sought-after portraitist in the city, particularly perhaps for his natural and forthright child portraits. This is probably of a girl from the city’s upper bourgeoisie. She is portrayed with a bullfinch she seems fond of, for she is holding the birdcage close to her in a firm grip.
