Danish artist Andreas Møller worked internationally, in Venice, Dresden, London and Vienna. He was a pioneer in the painting of portrait miniatures on ivory, strongly influenced by Rosalba Carriera. This example, traditionally said to be a portrait of Count Fabian Wrede af Elimä, was painted in Vienna in 1726. The same year, Møller met another Swede, Carl Gustaf Tessin, on diplomatic duties in the city. He then painted a portrait of Tessin in oils.
