The figures on the paper, originally blue, are a study of three varieties of a small sculpture. It shows an Atlas, which is a male figure usually carrying a part of a building on its back. The figure bends its head forward and the left arm is at an angle. One hand is placed on the back of the head. Tintoretto sometimes worked from small scale sculptures in wax or bronze. This may have helped him to increase the rate of production.
