Nightfall is one of the most effective renderings of twilight of the period. It is set in the area called Alvaret on Öland, and Nils Kreuger painted its barren landscape several times during his career. The scene with the grazing horses seem familiar for most people, but Kreuger renders it in a way that makes us experience it as almost alien, magnificent and saturated with its almost magical mood.
