Edvard Bergh became one of the most influential landscape painters in Sweden during the second half of the 19th century, among other things by ensuring that Konstakademien taught a special course in the genre. His creativity was based on careful nature studies, which he used in paintings like this. In spite of the realistic details, the nature seems to be an almost surreal idyll, which for a long time was a symbol of the landscape of central Sweden.
