The woman is wearing a jacket of a somewhat masculine style, typical for women’s clothing intended for outdoor activities. Ulrica Fredrica Pasch was the first female member of the Royal Academy. She belonged to an artist’s family, as both her father and brother were portrait painters. Relations and goodwill gave Pasch the opportunity to be educated as a professional artist, an opportunity rarely available to women of the time.
