Roed’s painting depicts an inconspicious part of Copenhagen. The place is the Thyberg family’s garden, a familiar secret oasis between two of the city’s largest streets. Somewhat unexpectedly, Roed has painted it in winter, when it appears to be very unprepossessing and the viewer’s gaze is drawn instead to the buildings in the background.
