    Egron Lundgren visited Naples in 1842. He painted Neapolitan fruit vendors the following year. He regarded it as an experiment for practicing figure painting without having to concentrate on the background, which almost becomes a single bright whole. Because of this, the painting, according to Lundgren himself, was "Italian grand”.
