Boy with a Wheelbarrow is one of Ernst Josephson’s freshest and brightest paintings. He painted it on Dalarö in the summer of 1880. It was around this time that he began to let more daylight into his imagery. Before then, he had been inspired by earlier painting, which was in darker colours. When he visited Paris in 1879, he was impressed by the modern artists there, who painted whatever they saw around them, in natural light and clear colours.
