The eldest of the three kings is kneeling before the infant Jesus. The other two lift their precious gifts high above their heads as they come riding with their companions through the mountain landscape. The motif with the adoration of the kings was especially popular with the wealthy classes of Renaissance Italy. Their wealth and gifts to the Church could be seen as a parallel to the gifts from the Kings to the infant Jesus.
