Between 1893 and 1896, Richard Bergh, Nils Kreuger and Karl Nordström settled in Varberg on the Swedish west coast. They had returned home from France to create a new national art and realized that they needed to leave Stockholm to succeed. In Varberg and its surroundings, they found motifs that matched their vision of the Swedish landscape. Extensive, atmospheric and characterized by many generations of agriculture.
