The full-length profile of author Verner von Heidenstam stands out against Lake Vättern’s glittering water. “Shine eastern star, through the June evening!”, is a line from Heidenstam’s poem Sweden, and perhaps he was referring to the summer dusk over Lake Vättern. The heavy folds of his overcoat make Heidenstam look like one of King Karl XII’s soldiers in a military greatcoat –
a reminder of his successful book about the soldiers, Karolinerna (1897–98).
