Hinric Hasenberger was Carl Gustaf Wrangel’s jester. In the portrait Hasenberger has jokingly, as if he were a nobleman, been assigned a coat of arms with a hare as wordplay on his name. A muzzle stands on the table, and the jester is gesticulating descriptively. One interpretation of this is that it hints at Hasenberger having said too much. Wrangel brought the artist Ehrenstrahl to Sweden. This is one of his early works in his new homeland.
