When French artist Nicolas-Didier Boguet here recounts an episode from the story of Amor and Psyche, he uses a work by 17th-century master Claude Lorrain as a direct model. Lorrain’s paintings with Arcadian landscapes experienced a renaissance in the late 18th century when historical landscapes once again became fashionable. Boguet was thus able to meet the demand for these mythological motifs from Grand Tour tourists at that time.
