En route to Italy, one of the stops Martinus Rørbye made was in the Alps. In a letter the artist complained about the way everything was adapted for tourism with shops and services of different kinds. Nothing of this can be seen here, however, but Rørbye seems to have gone out of his way to find a view that corresponded to the unexploited setting he had expected.
