On 15 July 1943 Ingvar Kamprad founded IKEA. He was seventeen years old and his company sold pens, nylon stockings and various other items by post order. Today IKEA is one of the world’s largest furniture retailers and a brand that is firmly linked with Sweden. His success is based on large-scale production of simple, low-price functional furniture. Thomas Wågström has portrayed Ingvar Kamprad with the hex key that has become a symbol of the company that has used flat packages to furnish Western homes.
