Dutch genre painter Camphuysen spent a decade in Sweden, starting in 1652. The Dowager Queen Maria Eleonora and Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie were among his employers. His animal paintings include the landscape and are sometimes arranged as if they were still lifes, often with a few thick birch trunks in the foreground. Camphuysen’s paintings have a somewhat naïve character that adds to their charm. This one belonged to art collector Henrik Wihelm Peill.
