Schröder studied under David von Krafft and became court painter in 1724. Magnus Stenbock was an important figure in Sweden during Charles XII’s war years, becoming a royal councillor, field marshal and governor general of Skåne. He led the Swedish army to victory over the Danes at the Battle of Helsingborg in 1710. Following the capitulation of the Swedes at Tönning in 1713, however, he was taken prisoner. Stenbock died in captivity in the citadel of Frederikshavn.
