Of the miniaturist Jean-Baptiste Jacques Augustin’s many female pupils, Sophie-Clémence Delacazette was among the most successful. Her work is especially notable for its fine lighting and meticulous reproduction of detail, in particular her rendition of skin and hair. Delacazette had her own studio where she taught miniature painting primarily to ladies from the upper class.
