Christina’s father, Gustav II Adolf, died when she was 5 years old. This portrait was painted a few years later. She is represented as a queen, but was still a child. Her size in relation to the chair is the only detail to suggest that she is not yet an adult. Through the window, a landscape and ships with Swedish flags can be seen, the first time the flag is depicted in a portrait. The painting is attributed to Elbfas, who worked for Christina’s mother, Maria Eleonora.
