With his self-assured gaze and proud pose, Andreas von Behn shows that he knows who he is, at a time when individuals of short stature often met with prejudice. From the 1670s, he was active as a miniaturist at court, working in particular for Dowager Queen Hedvig Eleonora. On the table next to him are brushes and a portrait miniature, offering clues as to his profession. He was also a drawing master to Crown Prince Charles, the future Charles XII.
