Carl Hårleman was influenced by early Rococo style when studying in Paris, 1721-25. Back in Sweden, he worked on the décor of Stockholm Palace. In 1735, Hårleman helped found the Royal Drawing Academy, where Swedish artists were taught by French masters. He was made director in 1741. Olof Arenius studied under David von Krafft and then worked in the Netherlands. On his return to Sweden in 1736, he became the court painter for King Frederick I.
