This allegory by the court painter Schröder shows how the king and queen believed the country was to be governed. Both hold their hand on a rudder, on which we see a royal crown, together with the three crowns emblem and a lion, symbolising Sweden. Ulrika Eleonora points to a triangle in the sky with the Hebrew letters YHWH (Yah-weh), a sign that their joint rule is according to God’s will. In reality, though, she had to relinquish the throne to allow Frederick I to reign alone.
