Thomas Hargreaves is one the many eminent English miniaturists from
the first half of the 19th century who has undeservedly fallen into obscurity.
He was pupil of Sir Thomas Lawrence, on whose portraits he seems to
have based his work at times. His miniatures are often technically
proficient in the English tradition with crossed, close brushwork. He has
not previously been represented in the collection. [slut]
