After his training at the Academy of Art in Stockholm, Spornberg
travelled to England in 1785 together with Elias Martin´s wife to study art for a year. He returned to England two years later accompanied by Martin.
Spornberg soon saw how lucrative it was to work in a spa like Bath with its
fashionable visitors. He remained active until 1840, when he emigrated to
the USA. Spornberg has not previously been represented in the collection.
