At the age of just 21, Jaquette Piper became the owner of the entailed estate of Hedensberg. This was unusual for a woman, but was in fact a tradition on her mother’s side. Her maternal great-grandmother had originally created the entail for her daughter, Charlotta De Geer, married Du Rietz. This portrait of a strong- willed estate owner was taken by the German travelling photographer Waldemar de Renard.
