Tomas Tranströmer’s poetry knows no borders. Even before he received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2011 his poems had been translated into more than fifty languages. He himself has translated around forty poets into Swedish from eight different languages. In one corner of Hans Gedda’s portrait we can see a large beetle. Insects have fascinated Tranströmer since his childhood and occupy an important place in his poetry. A newly discovered species of beetle was also named after him to honour his 80th birthday – Mordellistena transtroemeriana.
