  • Sexmale
  • Nationality/DatesItalian, active 1389 - 1428
BiographyAndrea di Bartolo was the son of the Sienese
painter Bartolo di Fredi and was raised and
trained in his workshop, where it is suggested
that he collaborated on the polyptych Coronation
of the Virgin preserved in the Museo Civico
e Diocesano d’Arte Sacra in Montalcino. From
around 1390 Andrea worked as an independent
painter, and dating from this period is the signed
triptych The Annunciation, now in the Museo
d’Arte Sacra in Buonconvento. From an initial
fidelity to his father’s work, Bartolo evolved
towards a more personal interpretation, showing
influences from Taddeo di Bartolo.
