BiographyPieter van den Velde became a master in
Antwerp in 1654. He painted marines with shipwrecks,
coastal scenes and ports. In composition and
technique he was influenced by Jan and Bonaventura
Peeters. His preferred colour scheme was brown and
grey. Sometimes other artists painted the staffage figures
in his paintings. He collaborated with David
Teniers II and Erasmus Quellinus II.
