BiographyJan van der Meiren was a painter of landscapes
and battle scenes. He became a master in the
Antwerp Guild of St. Luke in 1685. He probably
spent some time in Italy and also in Vienna. He specialized
in small landscapes full of figures with scenes
of Italian markets, battles and ports in the manner of
Peeter Bout. He also painted the staffage figures in
the landscapes of Adriaen Frans Boudewyns.
