    Numbered at lower right in pen and brown ink: 1370. (Sparre) and 97 (struck out). Inscribed on the old mount at lower left: Le chanoine Victoria veut que ce dessein soit de Jean Cambiaso pere de Luca

    Cambiaso took up this motif on several occasions, experimenting with different groupings of the disciples - Suida lists four drawn versions.

    Our drawing is closest to the painted variant for the refectory in the monastery of S. Bartolomeo degli Armeni, now in the Galleria di Palazzo Bianco, Genoa. The grouping of the figures is the same, with Judas on the far right. Suida dates the picture very late in the artist's oeuvre, c. 1580.

    The inscription with Victoria's attribution to Giovanni Cambiaso is clearly a result of a tradition which regarded Luca's father Giovanni as the inventor of the technique of representing the figures of models in geometric shapes. [Bjurström, It. Drawings, cat. no. 334]
