At the initiative of Hårleman, Jean-Eric Rehn was sent to study etching in Paris in 1740. Back in Sweden in 1745 he devoted himself to graphic art and sketching models for different types of artistic work. Subsequently, however, he was given more architectural tasks: for the Royal Palace, manor houses, churches etc. When this sketch was made is not certain, but the crown that adorns the pulpit shows that it was made for a royal commission.
