Tynell went to France to study in 1882, at the mere age of 17. She stayed for some 20 years and developed a style of outdoor painting that was closely related to Impressionism. In the 1890s, twilight scenes became increasingly common in her oeuvre. In the early 1900s, she returned to Sweden. Her autumn view of the little palace reflected in the fountain of the park at Versailles was probably painted during a visit to France in 1921.
