Like many artists around the end of the 19th century, Otto Hesselblom stylised his motifs by emphasising outlines. His use of line recalls the contemporary interest in decorative effects and Old Norse design features. The prominent lines are combined with a subtle lifelike rendering of the summer light. Even though Hesselbom based his landscapes on Dalsland, they were felt to be national rather than regional.
