Corot was one of the most influential French landscape painters in the 1800s. Although based on older classical traditions, his oeuvre had a strong impact on the plein-air painting that evolved in that century. He also experimented with landscape photography, another facet of his innovative approach to the genre. Louis Dubuisson was a close friend of the artist. In this painting from 1868, Corot portrayed his friend’s home in the small town of Brunoy, near Paris.
