On returning to Sweden after studies in Amsterdam in the 1730s and Paris in the 1740s, Johan Pasch became one of the leading decorative painters in Stockholm’s Royal Palace. He had his own studio and also decorated properties owned by the nobility and the bourgeoisie. He completed the décor for the von Fersen family palace in Stockholm. These overdoors come from Mälsåker manor house, which Axel von Fersen the Elder had refurbished in the 1750s.
