In 1899, Björn Ahlgrenson settled by lake Racken outside Arvika, in the artist colony that had been established there. His wife, Elsa Lindström, was the sister of the painter Fritz Lindström, who also moved to Värmland later. This painting of an early spring day in Värmland is characterised by rich colours, grainy, flickering effects and decorative lines. The work is representative of both Ahlgrenson and the atmospheric painting style at the turn of the century.
