A set of 18 portraits of Louis XIV, the French royal family and members of the court nobility came to Gripsholm in 1793 from Drottningholm, where they had been since the 17th century. The paintings are copies made in an unidentified Paris studio in 1664 from various originals, both other paintings and engravings. Although the quality of the portraits varies, the set is unique and bears witness to the close and friendly relations between Sweden and France in 17th century Europe.
