Erik Wrangel, originally a politician and public official, later became known as an author and rural economist. As a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, he promoted agricultural reform. It was on his initiative that work began at Kolmården’s marble quarry, which supplied materials for Stockholm Palace. This picture was painted by his contemporary Johan Henrik Scheffel, one of the most productive portraitists of the Age of Liberty.
